1. What is the function of the knee?
The structure of the knee includes:
- Bone;
- Cartilage;
- Mechanical;
- Ligament;
- Close.
The knee is an important part of the body. Knees support the body, allowing the legs to bend, bend, and straighten. The above parts work together] so we can walk, run, jump, ... in a flexible and easy way.

2. Common knee pain
2.1 Arthritis in the knee
The most common type of arthritis is osteoarthritis. Cartilage in the knee gradually wears off, causing pain.
Another type of knee arthritis is rheumatoid arthritis. When the knee becomes rheumatic, the knee becomes inflamed and cartilage can be damaged.
Treatments for knee arthritis:
- Use pain medication;
- Physical therapy method;
- Knee replacement surgery (only used when there are no other methods);
- Exercise regularly.
2.2 Injury and cartilage disorders
- Chondromalacia occurs when the cartilage in the kneecap is softened. It is caused by injury, overexertion or muscle weakness or if the parts of the knee are dislocated.
- Meniscus. A C-shaped cartilage that acts as a buffer between the femur and shinbone (shin bone). Cartilage can be more vulnerable if the knee is twisted while under heavy weight. May be partially or completely broken. If small, the meniscus is still connected to the front and back of the knee. If the rupture is large, the meniscus can be suspended by a series of cartilage. The severity of the injury depends on the location and size of the fracture.
Treatments:
- Strengthening exercises.
- Electrical stimulation to strengthen muscles.
- Surgery for severe injuries.
2.3 Ligament damage
- Two common ligament injuries in the knee are the anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) and the posterior cruciate ligament (PCL). Injury to these ligaments is sometimes referred to as a "sprain." The ACL is most often stretched or severed (or both) by sudden twisting movements. PCL is often injured by direct impact such as a car accident or blocking the ball (in football).
- The middle and lateral ligament joints are often injured by a blow on the outside of the knee. This can stretch the ligament and cause a break. These strokes often occur in sports like football or hockey.
Methods of treatment of ligament damage:
- Apply ice after the injury to reduce swelling;
- Practice muscle strengthening exercises;
- Fixes to keep the knees from moving much;
- Surgery (only applied when the damage is severe).
2.4 Injury and tendon disorder
Three main types of injuries and tendon disorders:
- Tendonitis and tendon rupture: The reason is due to overactive tendons. Always in a state of tension leading to inflammation. If the thigh muscle shrinks, the tendon may rupture
- Osgood-Schlatter disease: It is caused by compressing or stretching a part of the development area of the upper shin bone. It can occur if someone's tendon is broken from a bone, carrying a piece of bone.
- Tibia syndrome occurs when the tendon rubs on the outer bone of the knee and causes swelling. The syndrome will occur if the knee is overactive for a long time.
